Big.Bang.Beirut

These photomontages represent Beirut in a post-crisis moment. I have used image fragments of the shocked and outraged people after the 2020 Beirut port explosion alongside broken buildings in order to reflect the two opposing realities of life and loss in Beirut. The district which has destroyed was once the hub of Beirut’s nightlife. My images depict the contrast between entertainment and enjoyment on the one hand, and misery and destruction on the other.

The variation between the “here” and the “there” also considers the disparity between the internal and direct experience of the locals in Beirut and the external and indirect experience of the global community who continue to enjoy their everyday lives from afar.
