Isabel Mullarney

I am a Dublin-based photographer with a practice focused primarily on post-production. I am particularly interested in cinematic codes of horror. Photography is a way of exploring the world for me, a means by which I can meet new people. I am constantly learning new methods and experimenting with new styles.

Dissimulation

This project draws attention to the troubling issue of identity theft and identity masking in the online world. Texts, calls, emails, DMs are constantly catching people out. It's easy to create a fake identity and then use many different platforms to create multiple personas. With Covid, many have been exposed to a new wave of scams which anyone could fall for easily and accept as just someone wanting to help them.

The portraits force the viewer to look further into the image, find the text and be reminded of how easy it is to be fooled by seemingly innocent messages. Using post-production and codes of horror, I am making people more aware of this traumatic phenomenon.
